Frostbite Friendly League – Race 6: Hinchingbrooke

With efforts of late to increase my weekly mileage, ‘Wifey’ has tended to fall asleep after me… And it transpires that over the last week I’ve been physically shaking, shuffling and even bounding in my sleep.

The explanation? Frostbite!

Weeks have passed since round 5 of the Friendly Frostbite League Series: The mud has been washed off everything but my trainers (lazy me), the post race aches have dispersed and I’ve finally shaken off the flu.

A long warm up along the first mile of the 5 (ish) mile course in March, Cambridgeshire, slipping across muddy tracks and jumping in a few muddy puddles and it’s finally settled: Trails.

Frostbite Friendly League – Race 3: Hinchingbrooke

It’s just after silly o’clock AM during a recovery run. Spotify clicks another song into place and my mind wanders back to the previous weekends race: Frostbite Friendly League Race #3, and I recall cake, mud, excitement, mud, fast opponents… And mud.

Lessons learned

The last two weeks have seen an acceptable amount of training; with no big dramas and some progress in finding the root causes and possibly remedies of the injury woes I’ve had.

Warm up time for ‘The Daughter’. We head down a trail toward some trees; her floating silently with beautiful form, me sulkily clumping in desert boots and jeans.

The sound of rain slapping on the pavement welcomes me to Monday morning…

Sore but hopeful

Right leg raised in bed I’m contemplating today’s race, a 10 miler in the midlands, which I’ll be watching from the sidelines cheering on family and club mates and wondering exactly how fast I should be able to run 10 miles.
